An annual review is a meeting to check your EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan).

It looks at:

  • Your needs
  • The support you get
  • Your goals (outcomes)

It checks if anything needs to change

When does it happen?

  • First review: within 12 months of your EHCP starting
  • Then: at least annually (every year)

Who organises it?

  • Usually your school or college (often the SENCo)
  • The local authority (council) is still responsible

If you are not in school, the Local Authority organises it

Before the meeting

People will:

  1. Ask what you think and feel
  2. Ask your family and school
  3. Ask other professionals

This information should be shared 2 weeks before the annual review

The meeting

At the meeting, people will:

  • Talk about your EHCP
  • Discuss what is working well
  • Talk about what is not working
  • Think about changes

After the meeting

  1. A report is written and shared
  2. The local authority decides what to do

They can:

  • Keep your plan the same
  • Change your plan
  • End your plan

They must tell you of the decision within 4 weeks following the annual review

Important to know

  • The review is about helping you do your best
  • Your voice is important
